PES was on boarded as a business advisory service provider by the National Bank of Kenya a wholly owned subsidiary of KCB bank, the largest bank by assets in Kenya, for its WASH financing programme. This scope involves providing business advisory support to its institutional clients, including public utilities or Water Service Providers (WSPs). The scope includes review of business plans, financial analysis and preparation of bankable funding proposals for WSPs.
PES specifically worked with NBK to apply for a portfolio guarantee instrument to assist it address some of the collateral challenges the SMEs in the WASH sector face.
Outcome: PES assisted NBK in undertaking the due diligence process, conducted an analysis of its overall loan portfolio, reviewed and facilitated the negotiations of the terms sheet. Additionally, PES assisted in reviewing the terms of their WASH loan product.
NBK successfully partnered with African Guarantee Fund (AGF) to offer a partial guarantee to various private SMEs and public sector SMEs in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector, including preferential terms for women-led businesses and green businesses in Kenya
